Hello, world!
Welcome to our website. We hope you enjoy your stay!
Oscar Piastri, a driver from Australia, competed in the Free Practice Day of the Monaco Grand Prix for the Formula 1 World Championship on May 24, 2024, driving a McLaren MCL38 car. Piastri, along with his teammate Lando Norris, denied that their race weekend strategy had changed since obtaining a competitive car capable of winning races. McLaren had a significant improvement last season, going from sporadic eliminations in the first qualifying session to becoming the main rival of Red Bull in the end. With recent updates to their car in Miami, McLaren continued to progress, leading Norris to secure his first win and challenge Max Verstappen in Imola. McLaren team boss Andrea Stella acknowledged that their updates addressed the team’s weakness in low-speed corners, as demonstrated in Monaco. Piastri’s impressive performance in Monte Carlo, where he finished ahead of the Ferrari drivers, reinforced his belief that McLaren can now compete for top positions at all tracks. When asked about the impact of having a competitive car, Norris emphasized that his approach remains unchanged. Regardless of the car’s ranking, he approaches qualifying and the race with the same mindset of delivering his best performance. He acknowledges the additional pressure that comes with a competitive car, as even a small mistake can be more detrimental. However, Norris remains relaxed and excited about the opportunity to compete and aims to give his best, regardless of the circumstances. The improved chances of reaching podiums or even winning races have increased his excitement and motivation. Norris and his team maintain their usual approach, knowing that any mistakes will have bigger consequences. Overall, the team remains focused on performing at their best, as they have consistently done.
Piastri was unlucky to miss out on the chance to finish in the top three in Imola due to a penalty for obstructing Kevin Magnussen, which resulted in him not being able to start in second position. However, the former Alpine prospect bounced back in Monaco with an impressive performance, leading the charge for McLaren and securing his third career podium and the first of this season.
Like his teammate, Piastri showed that his approach remains consistent, regardless of the competitiveness of the car he is given. “It’s exciting. In terms of approach, honestly it doesn’t change much,” Piastri agreed. “Whether you’re fighting for 15th, 10th, or 1st place, you’re always trying to maximize the performance of the car you have. It’s just a bit more fun when you know that, if everything goes well, you have a chance to win. So, my perspective hasn’t changed drastically, it’s just a nice boost when you’re competing for wins and podiums.”
