McLaren is riding high with confidence as the 2024 Formula 1 season draws to a close. With a commanding lead over Red Bull in the Constructors’ Championship, McLaren looks poised to capture the title, and team principal Andrea Stella is already setting sights on an even stronger 2025 season. Reflecting on their season-long dominance, Stella highlighted how the team’s success with the MCL38 chassis has provided critical insights that will shape their approach for the upcoming year.

Stella credited McLaren’s innovative MCL38 chassis for the team’s success this season, with data collected from the car’s front wing and underbody confirming what McLaren engineers anticipated during its development. “We were very encouraged that the data from the front wing and underbody at the race track matched what we had identified during development,” Stella said, adding that this alignment has fueled confidence in McLaren’s preparations for next year.

The upgrades to the MCL38 have not been extensive, but even minor adjustments have contributed to consistent lap-time improvements. “The updates were not as extensive as some in the past, but they contributed to the lap time, just as we expected,” noted Stella. “This also gives us a lot of confidence in preparing for the 2025 season.”

Meanwhile, Ferrari has surged in performance, climbing to the runner-up position in the Constructors’ Championship. With four races remaining, they’re in a position to challenge McLaren and keep the title fight alive. Stella acknowledged Ferrari’s impressive mid-season development phase, where they gained significant ground. “There was a phase in which the development was not as expected, but Ferrari mastered that. I think it got some of its problems under control, and now it’s with a very strong car,” he commented.

With both championships up for grabs, fans can expect an exciting final stretch as McLaren and Ferrari go head-to-head, while Red Bull strives to improve its performance in the remaining races. As the season wraps, the lessons learned will be vital as McLaren aims to keep its momentum going into 2025, building on the winning formula they’ve crafted this season.
