McLaren believes that the difference to Mercedes in the Australian F1 is not an accurate reflection.

McLaren acredita que a diferença para a Mercedes na F1 da Austrália não é um reflexo preciso.

Oscar Piastri, from Australia, piloted the McLaren MCL38 in the Formula 1 World Championship race at the Australian Grand Prix in Albert Park, Melbourne, Australia, on March 24, 2024. According to Andrea Stella, head of the McLaren Formula 1 team, the team’s advantage over Mercedes in the race may not accurately represent their true performance due to the fragile nature of the tires. Taking advantage of Max Verstappen’s brake failure, McLaren secured their first podium at Albert Park since 2014, with Lando Norris taking third place and Oscar Piastri closely following. On the other hand, Mercedes had a disastrous weekend, with both drivers retiring from the race and leaving the team 29 points behind McLaren in the Constructors’ standings, occupying fourth place. Although George Russell was approximately 40 seconds behind Norris when he crashed on the final lap, Stella argues that this does not accurately reflect the pace of McLaren and Mercedes. Stella suggests that McLaren and Ferrari could have been competitive with Verstappen, but the significant difference between these teams and the rest, including Aston and Mercedes, surprises him. Stella believes the race was dominated by tire performance, as tire degradation played a crucial role. Therefore, the difference in lap times between the cars can be attributed to the ability to manage tire degradation, rather than the inherent performance of the McLaren and Mercedes cars. Stella attributes this unique tire behavior in Australia as the reason for this anomaly.

Piastri expressed surprise that Sergio Perez did not catch up to him, but Red Bull revealed that their car suffered “significant loss of downforce” due to a tear stuck under the floor.

Despite this, Red Bull faced difficulties during practice due to graining caused by Pirelli’s decision to use softer compounds in Melbourne, resulting in a race with two pit stops.

Stella highlights that Red Bull’s ability to manage degradation allowed the use of two sets of soft tires in Bahrain, indicating that tire behavior affects the variable order.

When asked why Red Bull had more difficulties with graining compared to other teams, despite having more aerodynamic pressure, Stella replied: “If you know someone who can explain these situations clearly, I would hire them immediately.”

He further explains: “In Bahrain, Red Bull was the only car that could comfortably use the soft tires. However, there was no graining in Bahrain because there was not enough grip to stress the tires and cause graining to appear. That is a completely different situation from here.”

He continues: “Understanding and addressing this issue from an engineering standpoint is not simple at all. Otherwise, everyone would be doing well. It is really difficult.”

Stella also mentions that during Verstappen’s long stint in P3, the tires deteriorated rapidly, indicating that Red Bull did not have an advantage in terms of tire handling on a track with soft tires prone to graining.

He concludes: “It is possible that, even on a similar track, things may behave differently. This is one of the nonlinear problems where a small change in conditions can lead to a drastic change in the solution. This is typical of what happens with tires.”

The Formula 1 driver, Lewis Hamilton, achieved another victory at the Monaco Grand Prix this Sunday. With an impressive performance, Hamilton led the race from start to finish and crossed the finish line in first place. This is Hamilton’s third consecutive victory in Monaco, further solidifying his dominance in the category.

The race began with Hamilton starting in pole position and maintaining a comfortable lead over his competitors. Despite the pressure from Max Verstappen, Hamilton managed to control the pace of the race and did not give the Red Bull driver a chance to overtake him.

During the race, there were some tense moments, especially when there was an accident between two cars that resulted in a period of yellow flag. However, Hamilton managed to stay calm and focused, regaining the lead as soon as the race was restarted.

With this victory, Hamilton extends his lead in the drivers’ championship. He now has a comfortable advantage over Verstappen, who holds the second position. Hamilton is determined to win his eighth world title this season and is showing flawless performance so far.

The next challenge for Hamilton and the other Formula 1 drivers will be the Canadian Grand Prix, which will take place in two weeks. It will be interesting to see if Hamilton can maintain his dominance and achieve another victory on this challenging circuit.

Hamilton’s fans are ecstatic about his performance and are full of praise for the driver. On social media, many are highlighting his skill and determination, stating that he is a true champion. With so many victories and records broken, Hamilton has already made his mark in Formula 1 history.

The 2024 season promises to be exciting and full of twists and turns. With talented drivers and competitive teams, each race will be an intense battle for victory. We can only wait and see who will emerge as the ultimate champion at the end of the year.
