Maxime Martin Departs BMW M Motorsport After Seven Glorious Years

Maxime Martin, a name synonymous with endurance racing success, has announced his departure from BMW M Motorsport, bringing an end to a relationship that spanned over seven fruitful years. Martin, the son of four-time Spa 24 Hours winner Jean-Michel Martin, leaves behind a legacy of victories and unforgettable moments with the Bavarian brand.

A Storied Career with BMW

Martin joined BMW in 2013, competing in the American Le Mans Series, and soon became a fixture in some of the world’s most competitive racing championships:

  • 2014-2017: He represented BMW in the highly competitive DTM championship, showcasing his mettle on some of the toughest circuits.
  • 2016: Martin achieved one of his career highlights by winning the 24 Hours of Spa for the second time, this time in a Rowe Racing BMW M6 GT3, cementing his status as a top-tier endurance racer.

After a stint with Aston Martin from 2018 to 2022, Martin returned to BMW in 2023, where he competed in multiple high-profile sportscar series, including the IMSA Endurance Cup and the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Maxime Martin’s Farewell

In a heartfelt statement, Martin reflected on his journey with BMW and the invaluable experiences that shaped his career:

“BMW M Motorsport has played a significant role in my career from the very beginning. I look back fondly on everything we achieved together – from my first successes in DTM and 24-hour races to the recent victories with the BMW M4 GT3. I wish BMW M Motorsport great success in the future, and the brand will always remain a part of me. But now it’s time for me to take on new challenges.”

A New Chapter Awaits

While Martin’s plans for 2025 remain unconfirmed, his versatility and proven track record in endurance and sprint racing make him a sought-after driver in the motorsport world. With his departure from BMW, fans and competitors alike eagerly await news of his next venture.

BMW’s Tribute to Martin

Andreas Roos, Head of BMW M Motorsport, expressed deep gratitude for Martin’s contributions, praising his skills both on and off the track:

“Maxime Martin has been a defining face of our programmes for many years. We fondly remember the successes we achieved together in both endurance and sprint racing. However, we value not only his sporting skills but also his wonderful personality. He has been a tremendous asset to the BMW M Motorsport family in every aspect. We wish Maxime all the best for his future and look forward to seeing him again, though as a competitor, but still as a friend.”

A Legacy Built on Success

From endurance triumphs at Spa to competing at the pinnacle of sportscar racing, Martin’s career with BMW is marked by resilience, skill, and passion. As he prepares to tackle new challenges, his journey serves as an inspiration for racers and fans alike, symbolizing the enduring spirit of motorsport excellence.
