Max Verstappen’s terrifying talent: why Sebastian Vettel believes he’s only getting better

Max Verstappen: The Rising Titan of Formula 1 Who’s Just Getting Started

In the high-octane world of Formula 1, where speed and precision reign supreme, one name is echoing louder than ever: Max Verstappen. And if you think the four-time world champion has peaked, think again. As Sebastian Vettel, the illustrious former F1 champion, aptly puts it, “The scary thing is he’s getting better.”

Verstappen’s 2025 season was nothing short of extraordinary. Despite piloting a Red Bull RB21 that lagged behind its fierce rival, the McLaren MCL39, he dominated the track with an unparalleled determination. With a staggering eight wins and eight pole positions under his belt, Verstappen demonstrated that raw talent combined with relentless hard work can defy the odds. His journey wasn’t without challenges; he courageously clawed back from a daunting 104-point deficit to championship leader Oscar Piastri, ultimately losing the title to Lando Norris by a razor-thin margin of just two points.

In a revealing conversation on the Beyond The Grid podcast during the Brazilian Grand Prix, Vettel showered praise on Verstappen, emphasizing his insatiable hunger for improvement and his unwavering commitment to the sport. “We know he’s good, but he’s still improving, he’s still hungry, he’s still willing to learn,” Vettel stated, highlighting the young driver’s unique blend of talent and hard work. “I think he’s working very hard behind the scenes as well, and that’s what makes him so strong.”

What sets Verstappen apart is not just his driving prowess, but his mental fortitude. Vettel noted that in high-pressure situations, Verstappen maintains a level-headed composure that is rare among athletes. “In the situations where it matters, he keeps his head, hardly ever makes a mistake, delivers when he needs to,” he elaborated. This mental resilience allows Verstappen to excel, even when the stakes are sky-high.

Vettel also recognized a marked evolution in Verstappen’s racing style, particularly in his approach to wheel-to-wheel combat. “His behaviour now is much more mature,” the German remarked. While Verstappen continues to display his audacious skill by navigating tight gaps, he has developed the wisdom to recognize when to hold back. “He knows they’re not important right now… he’s not panicking anymore,” Vettel explained, cementing Verstappen’s reputation as a strategic and skilled racer.

As the spotlight shifts to Lando Norris, who emerged as the 2025 world champion, Vettel commended Norris for his courageous stance on mental health—an issue that has long been a taboo in the world of elite sports. “It was just a taboo… you don’t talk about it,” Vettel reflected, acknowledging the pressures that F1 drivers face. He praised Norris for breaking the silence, becoming a beacon of hope and a role model both within and outside the racing community.

“Of course, I also see the comments of others criticizing that part, ‘it makes him vulnerable, it’s not good’ – but I strongly disagree,” Vettel asserted, reinforcing the idea that vulnerability is a strength, not a weakness.

As we watch Verstappen and Norris carve their paths in the annals of F1 history, one thing is crystal clear: the future of racing is in capable hands. The thrilling rivalry between these two titans promises to keep fans on the edge of their seats for years to come. Buckle up, because the ride has only just begun!
