Max Verstappen’s Future in Formula 1: A Risky Move to Mercedes, Warns Expert

The Formula 1 world is buzzing with speculation about Max Verstappen’s next career move after his advisor expressed concerns about the world champion potentially leaving Red Bull. Despite retaining his title last year, Verstappen faced challenges as Red Bull’s performance declined towards the end of the season, allowing McLaren and Ferrari to dominate the constructors’ standings.

As the 2025 season unfolds, McLaren continues to showcase dominance, with Verstappen’s recent victory at the Japanese Grand Prix demonstrating his exceptional skills behind the wheel. However, a disappointing performance in Bahrain has raised doubts about his future with Red Bull.

While there are limited options for Verstappen due to his high value, Mercedes could be a potential destination if he decides to part ways with Red Bull. Nonetheless, former Mercedes strategy director James Vowles has strongly advised against this move, stating that there is still untapped potential in Verstappen that could be harnessed at Red Bull.

Vowles highlighted Mercedes’ strong team culture, with two drivers performing at their peak and another driver showing promising growth. He emphasized that Verstappen’s arrival at Mercedes would not only displace Andrea Kimi Antonelli but could also disrupt the harmony within the team, especially with George Russell expected to secure a new contract.

When questioned about the compatibility of Russell and Verstappen as teammates, Vowles expressed skepticism, noting their contrasting personalities and driving styles. He praised Russell’s consistent performance and rapid improvement, suggesting that Mercedes should continue to invest in his development rather than pursue Verstappen.

The Formula 1 community eagerly awaits Verstappen’s decision regarding his future, as the possibility of a move to Mercedes could have far-reaching consequences for the team dynamics and the competitive landscape of the sport. Will Verstappen stay loyal to Red Bull, or will he take the risk and join Mercedes in pursuit of new challenges and victories on the track? Only time will tell in this high-stakes game of motorsport.
