Ralf Schumacher Drops Bombshell Prediction on Max Verstappen’s Future at Red Bull
Former Formula 1 star Ralf Schumacher has set the stage for a potential Max Verstappen departure from Red Bull if the team fails to enhance their car’s performance in the upcoming races. In a recent interview with the Formel1.de YouTube channel, Schumacher outlined a timeline for the four-time champion’s decision.
Despite high expectations, Red Bull has underperformed this season, trailing behind with only 36 points in the constructors’ standings after three races. The struggles with the RB21 car have been evident, leading to the early dismissal of Liam Lawson. Verstappen himself has acknowledged the car’s limitations, labeling it as the fourth-fastest behind McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes.
Schumacher boldly stated, “I think Max will leave the team. Especially if nothing happens in the next two, three or four races, because then the decision will be made.” This assertion aligns with McLaren’s Zak Brown’s perspective, who believes Verstappen could potentially switch to Mercedes at the end of the year, given their track record of championship victories.
Mercedes’ stronghold in hybrid powertrains further complicates Red Bull’s position, especially as the sport gears towards emphasizing hybrid technology with the upcoming regulation changes in 2026. Red Bull’s recent partnership with Ford might not be sufficient to match Mercedes’ extensive experience in hybrid powertrains.
The next trio of races in Japan, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia will be crucial for Red Bull to turn their season around. Verstappen, currently trailing behind championship leader Lando Norris, will be aiming for podium finishes alongside Yuki Tsunoda. However, if Red Bull fails to deliver, the possibility of Verstappen seeking opportunities elsewhere looms large in the air.
