Max Verstappen’s Future in Jeopardy: Will He Abandon Red Bull in This New Era?

The landscape of Formula 1 is shifting dramatically, and at the heart of this seismic change is none other than Red Bull Racing. Following the shocking exit of Helmut Marko after the decisive Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, an urgent question looms: will Max Verstappen, the reigning champion, remain loyal to Red Bull or will he be the next high-profile departure?

In a move that has taken the motorsport world by storm, Red Bull announced the departure of Marko—an influential figure who dedicated over two decades to the Milton Keynes squad. Notably, Marko and Verstappen shared a close bond, with the Dutch superstar previously expressing unwavering support for the 82-year-old during last year’s tumultuous power struggles within the team.

As the dust settles on Marko’s exit, it’s crucial to consider the implications for Verstappen. Recent whispers within the paddock suggested that if Marko were to be cut loose, Verstappen might not hesitate to follow him out the door. This departure marks a pivotal moment for Red Bull, as Marko is the second major figure to exit in 2025, following the dismissal of former team principal Christian Horner after the British Grand Prix.

Now, with Laurent Mekies stepping into the role of team principal, Red Bull stands on the precipice of a new era. Yet, the big question remains: will Verstappen stick around to spearhead this transition, or will he jump ship at the first sign of adversity? While it is confirmed that he will race for Red Bull at least during the inaugural season of the new power unit regulations, his long-term future beyond 2028 hangs tantalizingly in the balance.

As we look ahead to 2026, concerns are mounting regarding Red Bull’s performance, particularly as they transition to being their own power unit supplier. If this results in an uncompetitive package, will Verstappen stay the course? The four-time world champion is undeniably accustomed to competing at the front, and any dip in performance could prompt a dramatic reevaluation of his commitment to the team.

So, what does the future hold for Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing? Will he lead them into this uncharted territory or will he seek greener pastures elsewhere? The motorsport community is on edge, waiting for clarity on this unfolding saga. Have your say in our poll below!
