Power Shift in Formula 1: Lee Stevenson Takes the Helm at Audi F1!

In a groundbreaking move that has sent shockwaves through the Formula 1 paddock, Lee Stevenson, previously the chief mechanic for reigning champion Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing, has been named the team manager of the newly rebranded Audi F1 team. This pivotal appointment comes hot on the heels of Audi’s thrilling shakedown of their 2026 model in Barcelona, marking their official entry onto the F1 stage.

The prestigious Audi brand is gearing up for its inaugural season in 2026 after completing a full takeover of the Sauber team, transforming its identity and competitive strategy. Stevenson’s journey to this prominent role is nothing short of remarkable. He initially joined Sauber in April 2024 as chief mechanic before swiftly climbing the ranks to oversee the entire team as it evolves into Audi.

Stevenson’s promotion to team manager signals a significant shift in responsibilities, as he is poised to take on critical operational duties once managed by Jonathan Wheatley, who previously excelled as Red Bull’s sporting director before his transition to Audi. Wheatley, renowned for orchestrating one of the most efficient pit crews in F1 history, has set high expectations for Stevenson as they aim to replicate that historic success.

The stakes are incredibly high for the Audi team, as they seek to establish themselves in a fiercely competitive environment where every millisecond counts. Under Stevenson’s leadership, the team will strive to harness the expertise and innovative spirit that characterized Red Bull’s championship-winning strategy, which saw Verstappen dominate the circuit by clinching 21 of 22 races in a single season.

As Audi prepares to make its mark in this new chapter, it’s worth noting that Stevenson’s former colleague, Matt Caller, who was Verstappen’s number one mechanic, has also joined the Audi ranks, taking over Stevenson’s previous role. This influx of talent from Red Bull is indicative of Audi’s aggressive strategy to build a winning team from the ground up.

With the countdown to the 2026 season well underway, fans and analysts alike are eager to see how Stevenson and his team will leverage their wealth of experience to navigate the challenges ahead. Will Audi rise to the occasion and emerge as a formidable contender, or will the pressure of the F1 spotlight prove too much? One thing is certain: the Formula 1 world will be watching closely as the Audi F1 team writes its new chapter in racing history.

Stay tuned, because as the grid prepares to shift, the story of Audi’s bold entry into the arena is just beginning!
