Max Verstappen secured his sixth victory of the 2024 F1 season at the Canadian GP. The Dutch driver was fortunate to clinch the win after the safety car came out, allowing him to steal the victory from his competitors. Verstappen is confident that his win in Canada healed the wounds caused by his defeat in Miami.
The weekend in Canada was full of excitement. Surprise pole positions were taken by unknown drivers, while Verstappen started in second place on the grid. However, he was overtaken by Lando Norris during the race and fell behind. Fortunately for Verstappen, a safety car period erased Norris’ advantage.
Verstappen acknowledged that the timing of the safety car worked in his favor, comparing it to his bad luck in Miami. He believes that luck is part of racing and that sometimes it works in his favor and sometimes it doesn’t.
While Verstappen celebrated his victory, his teammate Sergio Perez had a disappointing weekend. Perez failed to advance beyond Q1 in qualifying for the second time in a row. This was a blow for Red Bull, as Perez was expected to be a strong contender for the team. Unfortunately, his race was also marked by incidents, including a collision at the start and a later spin that ended his race prematurely.
Despite Perez’s difficulties, Verstappen acknowledged that having two competitive cars would benefit Red Bull. However, the team is under pressure from their rivals, who are closing in on them in the standings.
