Max Verstappen slams FIA over “cautious” decision in dramatic Belgian Grand Prix rain chaos

The highly anticipated 2025 Belgian Grand Prix faced a tumultuous start as heavy rain descended upon the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, causing chaos and controversy amongst the drivers. The race was delayed due to the treacherous conditions, with poor visibility and standing water creating a safety hazard for the competitors.

Amidst the chaos, McLaren’s Lando Norris expressed concerns over the radio about the challenging conditions, highlighting the limited visibility behind the Safety Car. However, it was Red Bull’s Max Verstappen who stole the spotlight with his scathing criticism of the decision to delay the race start. The reigning four-time World Champion lambasted the FIA, labeling their approach as “way too cautious” and expressing frustration at the impending further delay due to heavy rain.

The Belgian Grand Prix holds a tumultuous history, with the 2021 edition being effectively abandoned and only half points awarded after completing just a single lap. Changes have been made to the rules since then, with no points awarded if the leader completes less than two laps, and full points only granted if the leader manages to finish 75% or more of the scheduled race distance.

As the drama unfolds at Spa-Francorchamps, tensions are running high, and the stage is set for a thrilling and unpredictable race once the weather conditions improve. Stay tuned for more updates on the Belgian Grand Prix as the action unfolds at one of the most iconic circuits on the Formula 1 calendar.
