Max Verstappen: “If we continue like this, I won’t be champion next year. It’s as simple as that,”

SINGAPORE, SINGAPORE - SEPTEMBER 20: Max Verstappen of the Netherlands and Oracle Red Bull Racing talks with Oracle Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner in the garage during practice ahead of the F1 Grand Prix of Singapore at Marina Bay Street Circuit on September 20, 2024 in Singapore, Singapore. Max Verstappen isn’t just dominating the Formula 1 world; he’s preparing to conquer a new challenge—fatherhood. With long-time girlfriend Kelly Piquet expecting their first child together, Verstappen is gearing up for an entirely different race, and Red Bull boss Christian Horner believes the reigning champion is more than ready for the role.

From Bonus Dad to Fatherhood Pro
Already a “bonus father” to Kelly Piquet’s daughter, Penelope, Verstappen has shown a natural flair for parenting. Sweet moments shared during livestreams and public appearances highlight his bond with the young girl, signaling his readiness to welcome his own child into the world.

Christian Horner, who has worked closely with Verstappen throughout his meteoric career, expressed confidence in the Dutchman’s ability to transition seamlessly into fatherhood. “Whenever you see him around kids, he’s just very natural, even with my children,” Horner said, adding that “fatherhood will come very naturally to him.”

The Verstappen-Piquet Legacy: Champions in the Making?
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko couldn’t resist joking about the potential greatness of Verstappen and Piquet’s child, speculating that the baby might be destined for a life of motorsport glory. With both parents deeply rooted in racing royalty—Piquet is the daughter of three-time F1 champion Nelson Piquet—it’s a tantalizing prospect.

Yet, Verstappen has made it clear he won’t push his child into motorsport. Drawing from his own experiences with his father, Jos Verstappen, the 27-year-old insists he’ll let his child carve their own path.

Horner on Verstappen: A Champion with a Big Heart
Beyond his personal life, Verstappen’s commitment and passion for Formula 1 remain unmatched. Horner described the Dutchman as a “no-nonsense” individual who avoids distractions and focuses on what truly matters.

“It’s just who he is. What you see is what you get with Max. There are no sides to him. He’s got a big heart, a huge passion for the sport, and he drives with passion and conviction,” Horner said.

Despite struggles with performance at times during the 2024 season, Verstappen clinched his fourth consecutive drivers’ title, solidifying his place among the sport’s greatest legends.

A Chance to Match Schumacher’s Record
As the 2025 season looms, Verstappen finds himself on the brink of history. Should he claim his fifth consecutive drivers’ championship, he’ll match Michael Schumacher’s legendary streak, a feat that would further cement his status as one of the greatest drivers of all time.

However, challenges abound for Red Bull. With significant personnel changes at Milton Keynes and increasing competition from rival teams, the upcoming season promises excitement and unpredictability.

What’s Next for Verstappen?
While his professional goals remain ambitious, Verstappen’s focus will undoubtedly shift as he balances the demands of racing with fatherhood. With Kelly Piquet by his side and the unwavering support of his team, Verstappen is poised to excel both on and off the track.
