The Las Vegas Grand Prix has secured a game-changing two-year extension, solidifying its presence in the Formula 1 calendar until at least 2027. However, insiders hint that this iconic race may be here to stay for much longer, setting its sights on a “longer-term” future in the world of motorsports.

Returning to the F1 scene in 2023, the Las Vegas Grand Prix holds a unique status among the 24 global destinations on the current calendar. Unlike other races, Vegas is proudly promoted by the series itself, ensuring a strong foundation for its longevity. With an initial decade-long “commitment” from its inception, the race’s place on the calendar is deemed incredibly secure, potentially overshadowing the recent buzz around the Miami Grand Prix’s extension until 2031.

The city of Las Vegas has warmly embraced the Grand Prix, turning what was once a traditionally slow weekend into a revenue-generating extravaganza. In a stunning revelation, organizers disclosed that the 2024 race weekend raked in a staggering $934 million, solidifying itself as the largest recurring event in Las Vegas. Drawing a crowd of 306,000 attendees, including 175,000 out-of-towners, the Grand Prix has undoubtedly become a staple in the city’s calendar.

President and CEO of the Las Vegas Grand Prix, as well as Chief Commercial Officer of F1, Emily Prazer, expressed the collective decision to extend the race for 2026 and 2027. Prazer emphasized a strategic focus on continual evolution, hinting at broader, enduring plans for the iconic race. Despite past challenges, the Grand Prix is poised for a bright future, with Prazer affirming a long-term commitment to the event.

The economic impact of the Grand Prix has been monumental, transforming November into the city’s most lucrative month. Last year’s race marked a historic milestone, shattering records and surpassing all expectations. Steve Hill, President of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, echoed Prazer’s sentiments, underscoring the race’s integral role in the city’s economic landscape.

Notably, Vegas witnessed Max Verstappen’s triumphant victory as F1 world champion last year, adding to the race’s illustrious history. Against the backdrop of the iconic Bellagio fountains and the bustling Strip, the Grand Prix has become a spectacle that transcends sport, captivating audiences worldwide.

As the Las Vegas Grand Prix gears up for its extended run, the motorsport world eagerly anticipates the thrills and excitement that only Vegas can deliver. With a promising future on the horizon, this iconic race is poised to etch its name in the annals of Formula 1 history, solidifying its status as a must-see event on the global calendar.
