Max Verstappen Overthrows McLaren Duo to Win Qatar GP and Force Three-Way Title Finale in Abu Dhabi

Max Verstappen unleashed a championship-defining performance under the scorching Lusail lights, defeating both McLarens to triumph in the Qatar Grand Prix — and in doing so, he blew the Formula 1 title fight wide open.

The Dutchman’s victory means the 2025 world championship will go down to a three-way showdown in Abu Dhabi.

Early Gamble Wins It: Verstappen Pounces Under Safety Car

The key moment came early.
When a safety car appeared, Verstappen dove into the pits — and both McLaren drivers stayed out until lap 25, a strategic call that proved costly.

From that point forward, Verstappen controlled the race, managed the pace, and delivered a crushing statement ahead of the season finale.

Piastri Chases, Sainz Stuns, Norris Stumbles

Oscar Piastri settled for second, unable to reel in the Red Bull after the pit stop divergence.
Carlos Sainz delivered one of the drives of the day, putting Williams on the podium with a superb third-place finish.

For Lando Norris, the damage was heavy.
A fourth-place finish behind Sainz slashed his once-secure championship lead and leaves him vulnerable heading into Abu Dhabi.

Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli completed the top five.
