Red Bull’s 2025 Formula 1 contender, the RB21, has made its first appearance on the Bahrain track, with their key driver, Max Verstappen, expressing confidence in the car’s direction. Having been unveiled in a studio with subdued lighting to keep the design under wraps, the car’s inaugural run marked a significant development in the Austrian team’s preparation for the 2025 F1 season.
Interestingly, the noticeable Mercedes-inspired ‘cannons’ on the engine cover, which were sporadically used in the 2024 season, were not included in the new design. This change comes after Red Bull started the previous season on a high note, with Verstappen leading the pack in the first four races. However, the journey to the title was not smooth sailing, with the team facing unexpected issues that underscored the RB20’s growing balance problems. This culminated in a 10-race winless streak, adding further complexity to Verstappen’s eventual retention of the crown.
Verstappen, who is eyeing a record-tying fifth consecutive title, has been candid about last season’s development challenges. He acknowledged that the developmental path the team took did not yield the anticipated results. However, the Dutch racer has assured fans and competitors that the team has learned from the past and is optimistic about the RB21’s potential.
Verstappen stated, “We had high hopes for the development direction we chose at that time, but it didn’t perform as expected on track, necessitating some changes. We are hopeful and confident that we have now taken the right direction. The upcoming season will show how much we can squeeze out of this car.”
Liam Lawson, the rookie driver from New Zealand, has replaced Sergio Perez and joins Verstappen on the Red Bull team. Despite his limited experience with just 11 F1 starts, Lawson has a clear understanding of his role in the team. He will focus on supporting Verstappen and helping the team reclaim the Constructors’ Championship, which they narrowly missed out on in the preceding season.
Lawson remarked, “The team’s primary goal is to win the Constructors’ Championship, which we missed out on last year. We are focused on making the car as fast as possible, and if we find ourselves in the position to fight for the Constructors’ title, then I know I am doing my job. That is the team’s expectation from me, besides my personal ambitions in Formula 1.”
As we wait for the official start of the 2025 F1 season, Red Bull and its drivers are gearing up for the battle ahead. With the RB21 on their side and a clear understanding of their roles, the Red Bull team is poised to put up a fierce fight for the championship title.
