In the wake of an unexpected uproar at the recent Formula 1 launch event, F1 75, held at London’s O2 Arena, Jos Verstappen has issued a stern warning. He suggests his son, Max Verstappen, Red Bull’s renowned driver, might abstain from future F1 unveiling events if they continue to be marred by such unsporting behavior.

The novel F1 75 event was a spectacle to behold, with a packed arena and a global television audience tuning in to witness all ten teams reveal their liveries for the 2025 season. Nonetheless, the celebration was tainted when the mention of Max Verstappen’s name during comedian host Jack Whitehall’s opening monologue was met with a wave of boos from the crowd. The negative reception continued as Christian Horner, Red Bull Team Principal, took to the stage, receiving a similar hostile reception.

Jos Verstappen has expressed his strong disapproval of the crowd’s reaction, attributing the ill-treatment to the English audience. He hinted that his son might opt out of similar future events if they were to take place in England again. During an interview with RaceXpress, the elder Verstappen expressed his disappointment over the booing of both Horner and his son. He argued that such behavior was not befitting of a crowd that had gathered to celebrate and promote the sport.

The tension in the arena was not exclusively directed towards the Red Bull team. The governing body of Formula 1, the FIA, also faced jeers when its logo appeared on stage. In response, the FIA released a statement emphasizing the importance of respect in sports, expressing their disappointment over the crowd’s reaction towards Max Verstappen and Christian Horner.

Max Verstappen, the reigning FIA Formula 1 World Champion, has traditionally preferred to concentrate on racing rather than the spectacle surrounding it. Prior to the F1 75 event, he expressed indifference towards the launch, stating he hoped it would be a good show for the fans to witness the unveiling of the cars and their new liveries.

Jos Verstappen’s warning raises questions about the future of Formula 1 launch events. His frustration and disappointment have underscored the need for maintaining a level of decorum and respect in sports. As the F1 community awaits Max Verstappen’s decision, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of respect in the sporting world.
