Max Verstappen’s Potential Move to Endurance Racing: A Game-Changer in the Making

Formula 1 sensation Max Verstappen is being touted as a potential game-changer in the world of endurance racing, with fellow driver Sebastien Buemi backing him to make a significant impact if he decides to switch gears in the future. Buemi, a Formula E and WEC driver, expressed his confidence in Verstappen’s abilities, claiming that the Dutch driver would be “directly pretty impressive” if he were to take on the challenge of the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Verstappen’s interest in endurance racing is no secret, with the young driver harboring ambitions of competing in the iconic race as part of motorsport’s coveted triple crown, alongside the Monaco Grand Prix and the Indianapolis 500. In fact, Verstappen has already envisioned his dream team for the race, including drivers like Fernando Alonso and Nyck de Vries.

Despite his lack of experience in endurance racing, Verstappen’s recent exploits on the Nurburgring Nordschleife under the alias ‘Franz Hermann’ have raised eyebrows and earned him a ‘platinum’ rating from the FIA, granting him the opportunity to explore racing in different categories, including GT3 and endurance machines.

Buemi, who has firsthand experience transitioning from F1 to endurance racing, believes that Verstappen’s meticulous preparation and simulation work would enable him to adapt quickly to the demands of a race like Le Mans. Drawing from his own rookie experience at Le Mans, Buemi expressed full confidence in Verstappen’s capabilities, stating, “He knows it perfectly, even if he’s never taken part in the race. He knows exactly how the weekend will go and how it works. So I have absolutely no worry that he would be directly pretty impressive.”

While Verstappen has expressed a desire to race alongside his father, Jos Verstappen, in endurance events, the senior Verstappen has shown no inclination to return to the sport after competing in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the past.

With speculations rife about Verstappen’s potential crossover to endurance racing, the motorsport world eagerly awaits to see if the young prodigy will add another feather to his cap by conquering the challenges of endurance races like the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans.
