Max Verstappen hails Kimi Antonelli’s stunning F1 comeback: could this rookie be a champion?

Max Verstappen Hails Kimi Antonelli’s Spectacular Rookie Season: A Rising Star in F1!

In the high-octane world of Formula 1, where every second counts and every move is scrutinized, rookie driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli has emerged as a force to be reckoned with, earning the admiration of none other than four-time world champion Max Verstappen. After a rollercoaster 2025 season, Antonelli’s recent performances have set the motorsport community ablaze with excitement.

The 19-year-old Mercedes driver kicked off his inaugural season with a promising start, securing five points finishes in his first six races and even clinching a sprint pole position in Miami. However, the road to success has not been without its bumps. Following a stellar start, Antonelli hit a rough patch, managing only a single points finish—a commendable third place in Canada—over the next seven races. Mistakes, including a notable off-track moment during practice at the Dutch Grand Prix, seemed to mar his otherwise impressive talent.

But just when critics began to question his consistency, Antonelli roared back to life in the latter part of the season. With an incredible streak of podium finishes—including two second places in both the Brazil sprint and grand prix, plus a third in Las Vegas—he proved that he’s not just a flash in the pan. His remarkable recovery drive at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, where he started from a dismal 17th position yet climbed back to fourth, showcased his fierce determination and skill. Despite a five-second penalty that momentarily dropped him to fifth, he ultimately benefited from a double McLaren disqualification, landing him in third place.

Verstappen, who witnessed Antonelli’s tenacity firsthand during the Las Vegas GP, expressed his admiration for the young driver. “I was focused on my own race against Lando [Norris] and George [Russell], so I didn’t pay much attention to what was happening behind me. But when Kimi told me he finished third, I was honestly impressed. He executed an incredible stint, even compared to George in the same car,” Verstappen remarked, highlighting Antonelli’s ability to maintain tire performance throughout the race.

The similarities between Verstappen and Antonelli are striking. Both drivers were thrust into the F1 spotlight as teenagers, showcasing raw speed that sometimes got overshadowed by rookie errors. This parallel has led Verstappen to mentor Antonelli during challenging moments, including the Austrian GP incident where the rookie collided with the Red Bull driver on the first lap. Yet their on-track battles have also sparked thrilling competition, particularly in Sao Paulo, where Verstappen applied intense pressure but ultimately fell short.

“Brazil was a great battle,” Verstappen recalled. “I was pushing hard to get by and tried to put him under pressure, but it just wasn’t enough. That’s racing for you.”

As the Qatar Grand Prix looms on the horizon, the entire F1 community is left wondering: can Kimi Antonelli continue this upward trajectory? With Verstappen in his corner and a season full of lessons behind him, the young star’s future looks brighter than ever. Fans and pundits alike are eagerly awaiting what this promising talent will bring to the grid next. The world of Formula 1 is watching—will Antonelli rise to the occasion and cement his legacy as the next big thing in motorsport? Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain: the spotlight is on Kimi Antonelli!
