Max Verstappen is highly unlikely to secure a victory in the Monaco Grand Prix and is feeling disinterested in the race. The Dutch driver has had a challenging time during the event, as he only managed a starting position of sixth place. As a result, he found himself bored during the live race, unable to engage in exciting overtakes on the circuit.
Verstappen faced numerous difficulties with his RB20 car, unable to achieve a strong performance in qualifying. The chassis of his vehicle was causing issues, resulting in slower lap times around the circuit. Meanwhile, his rival secured pole position and is currently on track for a comfortable win in the race. Unless opposing teams make mistakes, Red Bull has little to no chance of clinching victory in the Grand Prix.
The Monaco circuit is known for its lack of overtaking opportunities, which affected Verstappen’s ability to progress. He did not overtake any other driver in the last 30 laps, leading the current world champion to joke about bringing a pillow with him in the car. Verstappen finds the Monaco GP extremely boring due to this limitation.
Verstappen has been facing ongoing issues with the RB20, although previous versions of the car did not have this problem to such an extent. The team has already lost two races, with the Monaco GP becoming the third. The Dutch driver did not mince words when discussing the major issue with the car.
According to Verstappen, this problem is not new to the team, as it has been present in the car since 2022, during the ground effect era. He believes that the fundamental issue with the chassis will not be resolved in a few weeks.
If Red Bull does not solve the problem that is causing significant difficulties for Verstappen in securing wins in races, he may find himself closely following his rivals in the championship throughout the season. The team will need to implement several updates during the season to widen the gap between them and their competitors.
