VIDEO – Max Verstappen Explodes: Slams FIA as ‘Stupid Idiots’ After 10-Second Penalty for Piastri Clash

Max Verstappen endured a turbulent Abu Dhabi Grand Prix after a chaotic collision with McLaren’s Oscar Piastri at the opening stages of the race, which saw him handed a 10-second penalty by the stewards. The reigning four-time world champion didn’t hold back, labeling race officials as “stupid idiots” over team radio.

The Incident: Clash at Turn 1

The drama unfolded early as Verstappen and Piastri clashed while battling for second place. The contact caused damage to Verstappen’s RB20 and left Piastri fuming, but both drivers managed to continue. However, stewards deemed Verstappen responsible for the incident and issued a 10-second time penalty.

Verstappen, already frustrated by his car’s struggles, sarcastically quipped over team radio:
“Can we ask for 20 seconds? Stupid idiots.”

Frustration Boils Over

The penalty came amid a race where Verstappen was battling multiple challenges with his Red Bull car. Struggling with overheating tires and inconsistent braking, the Dutchman’s frustration was evident.
“F***’s sake. Locked up. I just can’t brake. The tires are just too hot,” Verstappen exclaimed during the race.

Despite his characteristic grit, Verstappen’s inability to keep the RB20 in its performance window meant his hopes of fighting for victory quickly evaporated.

Piastri Fires Back

Oscar Piastri, who managed to recover from the incident to stay in contention, didn’t hold back in his post-race comments. The McLaren driver appeared to take a subtle dig at Verstappen, further stoking tensions between the two competitors.

Damage Limitation for Verstappen

Forced into a pit stop for new hard tires and battling through the field from 11th place after serving his penalty, Verstappen aimed for damage control. Despite the setback, he managed to claw back positions but was far from his usual dominant self.

The Yas Marina Circuit’s challenges and the RB20’s tire management issues made Verstappen’s task even more daunting. His early collision effectively eliminated any chances of ending the season with a victory.

No Impact on Red Bull’s Standing

Fortunately for Red Bull, Verstappen’s struggles had no bearing on the team’s standing in the Constructors’ Championship, as their position was already secure. The Dutchman, however, will likely view the season finale as a race to forget.

A Season of Highs and Lows

Verstappen’s fiery radio messages and on-track missteps capped a challenging 2024 season finale. While the four-time champion has enjoyed immense success throughout the year, the Abu Dhabi GP was a sobering reminder that even the best can falter under pressure.

With the curtain falling on the 2024 season, Verstappen will undoubtedly look to regroup and return stronger in 2025, carrying the lessons learned from a tough race at Yas Marina.
