Max Verstappen Embraces ‘Horror Villain’ Persona After Stunning Qatar GP Triumph

In a gripping turn of events at the 2025 Qatar Grand Prix, Max Verstappen has fully embraced the role of the “horror movie” villain, following comments by McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown. After snatching yet another victory from the clutches of McLaren, Verstappen cheekily suggested that fans could call him “Chucky” as the championship battle intensifies heading into Abu Dhabi.

During the post-race press conference, the reigning champion was asked about Brown’s striking comparison of him to a horror character that “keeps coming back.” With a laugh, Verstappen quipped, “You can call me Chucky. I don’t know, I mean I saw it as well, I thought it was quite funny.” He further elaborated, “From my side, I just focus on myself, you know… I know that when I go in the car, I just try to do the best like I guess everyone does. That’s the only thing that I can control, right? And that’s the only thing that I focus on.”

This latest victory was not without its drama. McLaren’s decision to keep both drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, on the track during a critical safety car period proved to be catastrophic. While the rest of the grid dove into the pits for fresh tyres, the McLaren duo remained out, disrupting their race strategy. The fallout was severe: Piastri plummeted from first to second place, while Norris slipped from an impressive third to fourth. Brown described this decision as a “huge mistake” that cost his team not only a potential victory but also a chance at a double podium finish.

As a result, Verstappen has now tightened his grip on the championship race, sitting a mere 12 points behind the current leader. Yet, the Dutchman remains remarkably unfazed by the pressure. “I’m a lot more relaxed now. I know that I’m 12 points down. I go in there with just positive energy,” he stated. “I try everything I can, but at the same time, if I don’t win it, I still know that I had an amazing season. So it doesn’t really matter.”

The Red Bull star reflected on his mindset, adding, “It takes a lot of the pressure off. I’m just out there having a good time like I had today. I also started today with ‘oh, we’ll see how it goes.’ I know that when I sit in the car, I will always maximize everything I can and that’s what I’ll try to do also in Abu Dhabi. But at the same time, I also know that we need to rely on probably some external factors to have a go at it.”

With the stakes higher than ever, Verstappen is not underestimating the unpredictability of racing. “A race like today shows that we think it’s going to be boring and straightforward. It’s not, so I’m hoping that Abu Dhabi is going to be similar,” he declared, setting the stage for what promises to be an electrifying showdown.

As the countdown to Abu Dhabi begins, fans and rivals alike are left wondering: Can Verstappen continue his reign of dominance, or will McLaren rise from the ashes to reclaim their glory? The drama is far from over, and the tension is palpable as the championship fight heads into its final throes.
