Max Verstappen dominates Bahrain pre-season test: Red Bull’s star sets the fastest time!

Max Verstappen Dominates Bahrain Pre-Season Test: An Explosive Start for Red Bull

In a stunning display of speed and precision, Max Verstappen has taken the Formula 1 world by storm, setting the fastest lap during the opening morning session of the Bahrain pre-season test. As the clock struck 12pm local time, Verstappen unleashed a blistering time of 1m35.433s on soft tyres, solidifying Red Bull's formidable presence in this year's championship race.

While this impressive lap time is a full five-and-a-half seconds off the pace of Oscar Piastri's 2025 pole position record of 1m29.841s, it’s clear that teams are still in the early stages of tuning their machines to meet the new technical regulations. Piastri, piloting McLaren's newly adorned MCL40, showcased his own prowess by securing second place, trailing Verstappen by just 0.169s, a tantalizing glimpse of the fierce rivalry that awaits in the upcoming season.

Mercedes’ George Russell made his mark by clinching third place with a time of 1m36.108s, while the legendary Lewis Hamilton lagged in fourth, one second behind his teammate. Hamilton, despite his lower position, faced a minor setback when he spun harmlessly at Turn 1—an event that might have raised eyebrows among his fans but is far from a cause for concern.

Completing the top five was Esteban Ocon of Haas, clocking in at 1m37.169s. The morning session revealed that teams were not yet pushing their limits, which explains the noticeable gaps in lap times. Arvid Lindblad and Carlos Sainz, finishing sixth and seventh respectively, showcased impressive endurance with 75 and 77 laps completed for Racing Bulls and Williams. This marks a significant comeback for Williams, who had to forgo the Barcelona shakedown due to production delays on their new challenger.

In the eighth position, Gabriel Bortoleto made waves with a revamped Audi R26, boasting radical new sidepods that have already sparked discussions within the paddock. Meanwhile, Valtteri Bottas of Cadillac and Lance Stroll from Aston Martin rounded out the top ten, both showcasing their updated liveries that had been revealed just prior to the test.

However, the day was not without its hiccups. The only red flag of the session was raised by Franco Colapinto in Alpine's A526, which unfortunately came to a halt on track, resulting in the lowest lap count of the day at just 28 laps and a time of 1m40.330s.

As the engines roar back to life, fans and teams alike are left buzzing with anticipation for what this season holds. With Verstappen leading the charge, the stage is set for a thrilling Formula 1 showdown. Will he maintain this momentum as teams refine their strategies? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure: the Bahrain pre-season test has ignited a fierce competition that promises to deliver excitement throughout the season.
