Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen has dismissed circulating rumors of an impending £1 billion contract offer from Aston Martin, intended to entice him away from his current team, Red Bull. These speculations, initially reported by dailymail.com, have been deemed unfounded by Verstappen as he refocuses his attention on the upcoming 2025 Formula 1 season.

The rumored contract was said to provide the Dutch racing driver with an estimated $1.264bn/€1.207bn across the remainder of his career, should he decide to make this sensational switch. Nevertheless, Verstappen was quick to dispel these rumors, stating that his only association with Aston Martin is through their GT3 racing project, where he plans to establish his own team separate from F1.

Verstappen, a crowd favorite at the Red Bull F1 events, expressed his confusion over the rumors, stating that he had no prior knowledge of such an offer. Red Bull’s team principal, Christian Horner, also dismissed the speculation, attributing it to the typical rumor mill that operates during the quieter winter months of F1. Horner further emphasized that Verstappen’s satisfaction with his current team and his strong relationships with the staff were proof enough of his commitment to Red Bull.

The onus, Horner pointed out, was on Red Bull to provide a competitive car and continue to offer Verstappen a platform to achieve results, as they have done for nearly a decade.

Despite Verstappen’s denial, Aston Martin continues to be ambitious in its pursuit of dominating the sport. This ambition was evident in their recent acquisition of legendary car designer Adrian Newey, who was secured with a lucrative £20 million-a-year contract and a stake in the team. Aston Martin’s team owner, Lawrence Stroll, has also been making aggressive strides to enhance the team’s competitiveness.

One such move includes major upgrades to their factory near the British Grand Prix’s Silverstone Circuit. Aston Martin’s managing director of commercial and marketing, Jefferson Slack, has reportedly been discussing Verstappen’s potential signing with investors, causing speculation that the Dutch driver may soon be sporting Aston Martin’s signature green.

Verstappen’s current contract with Red Bull extends until 2028. He has repeatedly expressed his loyalty to the team, with which he has secured multiple world championships, including his most recent victory at the 2024 Las Vegas GP. His current earnings of about £50 million per season would require Aston Martin to quadruple their offer to even begin to tempt him.

The promise of a team built around him, along with a stake in the team, could potentially sweeten the deal for Verstappen. A significant factor in his long-term decision could be Red Bull’s partnership with Ford, which is slated to power their new engine development from 2026.

However, the rumored offer from Aston Martin is too substantial to be completely disregarded. The team’s serious intent is evident from their recent acquisitions, state-of-the-art facilities, and the exclusive power unit provider agreement with Honda from 2026 onwards.

The foundation that Lawrence Stroll’s team has built mirrors the one that made Red Bull a formidable competitor from 2021-2024. This similarity could make Aston Martin a more appealing option for Verstappen, especially if Red Bull fails to maintain its competitive edge under the new regulations.

While the Dutch champion currently dismisses the possibility of a team change, the racing world will be watching closely to see if the dynamics shift in the upcoming 2025 Formula 1 season.
