Max Verstappen criticizes red flag at the Monaco Grand Prix for ruining race plan, finishes in 6th place.

Max Verstappen expressed his dissatisfaction after the conclusion of the Monaco Grand Prix, as the Dutch driver could only secure a sixth place.

Verstappen had a disastrous weekend in Monaco, struggling to find comfort with the RB20 throughout the event. Starting from sixth position, the three-time world champion failed to make any significant progress. After the race, Verstappen openly discussed his uneventful race.

During the race, the current world champion jokingly mentioned on the team radio that he should have brought a pillow for the race. He further emphasized that the experience was “extremely boring” for him. Verstappen attributed the lack of excitement to the red flag that was triggered after Sergio Perez’s big accident, which disrupted the race strategy for all drivers.

Furthermore, Verstappen stated that the fifth-placed driver, whom he did not mention by name, adopted a defensive approach in the final stages of the Grand Prix. According to Verstappen, this driver aimed to reach the finish line with the more fragile medium tires. Consequently, Verstappen was forced to match the speed of this driver, as overtaking opportunities were non-existent.

Max Verstappen started the race ahead of his rival, who was in seventh position. Throughout the race, both drivers maintained their respective positions. However, Mercedes tried to gain an advantage over Verstappen by pitting Lewis Hamilton one lap earlier.

The three-time world champion recalled Hamilton’s early pit stop. However, Verstappen clarified that he managed to make his own pit stop immediately after Hamilton, nullifying any potential threat of being overtaken. Regardless, Verstappen stated that these factors did not significantly impact his race.

Without a doubt, Max Verstappen and Red Bull face a challenging task after their disappointing performance in Monaco. The current world champions need to regain lost ground in relation to Ferrari and McLaren. However, it remains to be seen if Verstappen will be able to make a strong comeback in the next stage of the season and fight for victory once again.
