Max Verstappen Shatters Competition at Nurburgring with Dominant GT3 Performance

In an electrifying display of speed and skill, Max Verstappen and his Verstappen Racing teammates took center stage at the iconic Nurburgring Nordschleife, leaving a trail of competitors in their wake. As the four-time Formula 1 World Champion gears up for his highly-anticipated debut in the Nurburgring 24 Hours, this weekend was anything but a leisurely break for the Dutch superstar. Instead, Verstappen opted to showcase his unparalleled racing prowess in the first Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS) race of 2026, and he did not disappoint.

Having made a sensational GT3 debut at this very track last year, Verstappen switched gears—literally—trading his Ferrari for the might of a Mercedes GT3 car. The outcome? A commanding performance that echoed his previous success. Verstappen stormed to pole position, clocking an astonishing 7:51.751—an impressive two seconds ahead of his nearest rival, achieved amidst a chaotic qualifying session marred by 'code 60' slow zones.

As the race commenced, Verstappen found himself embroiled in a fierce duel with the seasoned Christopher Haase, who initially seized the lead. However, it was only a matter of time before Verstappen reasserted his dominance, reclaiming the top spot with a breathtaking side-by-side maneuver nearly an hour into the four-hour race. The crowd was on the edge of their seats as Verstappen unleashed his competitive spirit, thrilling fans with every twist and turn.

Handing over the reins to teammate Dani Juncadella, Verstappen's squad maintained a six-second lead. Juncadella skillfully navigated his stint, setting the stage for Jules Gounon to take over in prime position. As the clock wound down, the #3 Mercedes, powered by Verstappen Racing, held a staggering 40-second advantage over the competition.

With less than an hour remaining, it was time for Verstappen to return to the driver's seat, tasked with defending a 35-second lead. But rather than simply protecting his position, Verstappen unleashed his inner competitor, extending his lead to an astonishing 50 seconds and beyond. As the checkered flag waved, Verstappen crossed the finish line nearly a full minute ahead of the competition, solidifying not just a win, but a statement of supremacy on the legendary track.

This remarkable feat not only emphasizes Verstappen's relentless pursuit of excellence but also serves as a thrilling prelude to the monumental challenges that lie ahead in the Nurburgring 24 Hours. As fans eagerly await more action, one thing is clear: Max Verstappen is a force to be reckoned with in the world of motorsport, and he’s just getting started.
