Max Verstappen BOYCOTTS F1 Movie Premiere, Sparks Controversy with ‘Forced’ Attendance Decision

Defending Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen caused a stir by snubbing the star-studded premiere of the F1 movie, citing his displeasure at being ‘forced’ to attend. The highly anticipated launch event in Times Square was a gathering of the sport’s biggest names, including celebrities like Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, and Damson Idris. Verstappen, along with a few other racers, including Fernando Alonso, opted to skip the event, choosing to spend time with his daughter instead.

In a bold statement after the Canadian Grand Prix, Verstappen expressed his feelings about attending the premiere, saying, “You just shouldn’t force me to go somewhere because that’s not quite how it should be.” This move by Verstappen has raised eyebrows and sparked discussions within the F1 community.

The F1 movie, set to be released in the UK on June 25, has been in production since 2023. The film features seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton in an advisory role and follows the story of teammates Sonny Hayes and Joshua Pearce, played by Brad Pitt and Damson Idris, respectively. The movie’s storyline revolves around the dynamic between an older driver making a comeback and a young rookie in the world of motorsport.

Verstappen’s absence from both the premiere and a previous private screening in Monaco has not gone unnoticed, especially as other F1 drivers eagerly attended these events. The decision to prioritize personal time over the glitz and glamour of the movie premiere showcases Verstappen’s focus on what matters most to him outside of the racetrack.

As the F1 movie generates buzz ahead of its release, Verstappen’s choice to skip the premiere adds an unexpected twist to the narrative, leaving fans and pundits speculating about the motivations behind his decision. Whether this move will have any repercussions or if it’s simply a personal preference remains to be seen, but one thing is certain – Verstappen continues to march to the beat of his own drum, both on and off the track.
