Max Verstappen believes that organizing a sprint race in China would not be the smartest decision.

Max Verstappen acredita que organizar uma corrida sprint na China não seria a decisão mais inteligente.

Formula 1 (F1) previously hosted a Grand Prix event at the international racing circuit in Shanghai in 2019.

Max Verstappen, a professional racing driver, shared his opinion on the inclusion of sprint races in F1. These races aim to allow drivers to earn more points for their respective teams. However, Verstappen believes that incorporating a sprint race in the Chinese Grand Prix may not have been the most favorable decision.

Verstappen argues that adding a sprint race in China poses challenges for the drivers. This is mainly due to the extended period since the last competition at the Shanghai circuit. Navigating the intricate track with only practice sessions (FPs) is already demanding for the drivers, and the inclusion of a sprint race further intensifies the pressure.

When sprint races were initially introduced to the F1 calendar, many drivers were hesitant about the change, despite the potential for increased points. Verstappen emphasizes that the uncertainty surrounding the return to the Shanghai track after a significant hiatus, along with the inclusion of a sprint race, creates additional difficulties for the drivers.

Due to COVID restrictions, F1 temporarily suspended its racing activities in China. However, with the absence of risk factors, the sport plans to return to the country in the near future. Although Verstappen is not in favor of a sprint race on the Shanghai track, he is excited about the resumption of races on the 5.451 km circuit.

The most recent F1 race at the Shanghai circuit took place in 2019. So far, Max Verstappen leads the 2024 Drivers’ Championship after four rounds. Although the RB20 has performed well so far, the upcoming event in Shanghai, combined with Ferrari’s ongoing progress, may pose challenges for Verstappen and his team.
