In recent years, Hollywood has been producing films that bring back some of the most iconic toys in history, and this time it will be Matchbox’s miniature cars from Mattel making the leap to the big screen.
The idea comes from director Sam Hargrave, known for action films Extraction and Extraction II starring Chris Hemsworth, and who has worked as a stunt coordinator on important films like Avengers: Endgame, Atomic Blonde, Suicide Squad, Deadpool 2. This time, he will be assisted by David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper, who are writing the script for the action film featuring the small Matchbox cars.
So far, the plot of the film has not been revealed, but Mattel has announced that the arrival of the small cars on the big screen aims to entertain audiences “of all ages,” just like the Matchbox miniatures designed for younger audiences.
It is worth remembering that the Matchbox brand was created in 1953 when car enthusiast Jack Odell decided to create a scaled-down model for his daughter to take to school.
71 years later, the brand owned by Mattel, like other toys that have recently made it to the big screen, will see the small cars that are part of many collections move from the small box to the big screen.
