The Maserati GT2 is ready to challenge the tracks, after making its debut at the end of the last season of the European championship of its class, the natural evolution of the MC12, is back with a V6 heart at 90° biturbo, based on the Nettuno engine of the MC20.
The Maserati GT2, a non-homologated competition car for the road, but optimized to roar and surprise also on the track, was created to take the Modena brand back to the circuits in championships aimed at race cars with covered wheels, in order to convey a competitive tradition that is an integral part of its DNA.
To achieve this, the model destined for the tracks is equipped with the Nettuno six-cylinder V engine at 90° with two turbochargers, 3.0 liters of capacity and dry sump lubrication, capable of delivering 621 hp (depending on the BoP) at 7500 rpm, and an extraordinary 730 Nm of torque from 3000 rpm. The specific power is 207 hp/l. The compression ratio is 11:1; the diameter is 82 mm, and the stroke is 88 mm.The soul of this engine remains the innovative combustion pre-chamber system with two spark plugs, a technology developed for Formula 1, and now available in the Maserati GT2. The system is based on three main components: the pre-chamber, located between the central spark plug and the traditional combustion chamber; the side spark plug, which serves as support to ensure normal combustion in the engine when operating at points where the pre-chamber is not necessary; and the dual injection system, indirect and direct, to ensure the perfect fuel and air mixture.
The turbochargers and exhaust manifolds have been revised to allow for higher supercharging pressure and efficiency at maximum power, and for lower back pressure due to the different exhaust system, to ensure the same level of performance on all tracks, worldwide.
Additionally, there is a new exhaust line, designed to meet competition requirements, along with specific air intakes and a cooling circuit, to maximize the performance of all systems.
Present with three vehicles at the opening stage of the Fanatec GT2 European Series, which will take place next weekend, the Trident brand promises to show all the sporting nature and competitive vocation of the new Maserati GT2.
