Crowned champion of the F1 Academy just under a week ago, Marta García already has her future defined. In 2024, she will compete against a predominantly male field in the Formula Regional European by Alpine (FRECA), with Prema.
Currently 23 years old, the Spanish driver makes this career move with the support of the F1 Academy, which aims to create a path for women to reach Formula 1 in the future.
García will once again compete against men, after four seasons in exclusively female championships – three in the W Series and one in the F1 Academy. Before that, she competed in the Spanish Formula 4 in 2016 and 2017, as well as the SMP Formula 4 in 2017.
The Spanish driver stated in a press release that she is aware of the great challenge and work that lies ahead in order to achieve success in this new stage of her career: ‘I am very excited and thrilled to compete in FRECA next year. Coming from the F1 Academy will be a big step. We know that we will have to work hard with the team to succeed, but I am determined to do well. I cannot thank the F1 Academy enough, it is such a fantastic initiative and it is the right way to do it, trying to bring the drivers with the best results to the top. What an incredible opportunity, I am looking forward to it and the work we have ahead, on and off the track’.
