Marta Garcia, winner of the inaugural F1 Academy championship, has joined the Iron Dames motorsport project. This change comes ahead of her debut in the 2024 FRECA season in May. Garcia secured a fully funded seat with championship team PREMA after her victory in the F1 Academy. She expressed her excitement at becoming an Iron Dame and acknowledged the program’s contribution to women in motorsport. Garcia is eager to work with the team and make the most of all opportunities this season.
Prior to moving into single-seaters, Garcia had a successful career in karting, winning the CIK-FIA Karting Academy Trophy and the Trofeo delle Industrie. In 2017, she competed in the Spanish F4 Championship and in 2019, took part in the W Series, finishing fourth in the championship in her debut season. In the first season of the F1 Academy, Garcia achieved seven wins and five pole positions.
The Iron Dames project, created in 2018 by Deborah Mayer, former president of the FIA Women in Motorsport Commission, welcomed Garcia as its 12th representative. The project aims to support female athletes in motorsport and has expanded to include rallying. The Iron Dames are committed to providing a welcoming environment for female talent to thrive and inspire others. The team has drivers competing in rally, endurance races, F1 Academy, and karting.
At the recent opening round of the European Le Mans Series season, Iron Dame Sarah Bovy secured pole position at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The Iron Dames continue to expand their team and attract female athletes from various disciplines of motorsport to strengthen their lineup.
