Marquez aplaude audaciosa defesa de Bagnaia na corrida de MotoGP em Jerez

Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez engaged in an exciting battle for victory at the MotoGP of Spain on April 28, 2024. Despite finishing in second place, Marquez had no issues with how the fight unfolded, praising Bagnaia’s aggressive yet fair defense. Marquez’s hopes of a win were dashed when he fell during Saturday’s Sprint due to a wet part of the Jerez track. He acknowledged that his error from the previous day weighed heavily on him, causing him to lose his pole position at the start of the Grand Prix. However, Marquez managed to overtake Marco Bezzecchi and launch an attack on Bagnaia during the race. He reflected on the cautious start, stating that he had witnessed many crashes in Moto2 and wanted to avoid a similar fate. Despite his efforts, Marquez was content with his podium finish and admired Bagnaia’s performance, especially his record lap at the end of the race.

“That initial move was the moment to secure the win, but he defended – assertively yet commendably,” expressed Marquez.

“That’s the essence of racing and he executed his strategy skillfully.

“I followed him for an additional lap, causing the front tire temperature to rise, making it impossible to brake hard. However, I must also acknowledge that he caught me off guard with his quick lap times in the final two laps.”

Although not clinching the win, being in contention for the top spot was a significant milestone for Marquez, marking four years since his injury that threatened his career at the Jerez circuit.

The eight-time Grand Prix champion’s decision to leave Honda and join a Ducati satellite team this season was an affirmation of his ability to compete at the forefront of the grid, as he demonstrated on Sunday.

“I mean, my nightmare started four years ago,” he reflected.

“And it was an incredibly difficult journey. However, I am hopeful and optimistic that my second chance in life begins now.

“It is undeniable that it was a nightmare period and we have not fully recovered from that negative phase yet.

“But gradually, we are receiving positive and encouraging news.

“I express my gratitude to everyone who has supported me immensely, including Honda for respecting my decision, as well as Gresini and Ducati for giving me the opportunity to race for them this year.

“I am enjoying this experience and I am satisfied. When I am satisfied, I am agile.”
