Lawson’s Red Bull Baptism: A Lesson in Survival, Not Supremacy – Helmut Marko advises Lawson: “Don’t think you’re going to beat Verstappen”

Liam Lawson’s Red Bull Future Hangs in the Balance: A Call for Patience Amidst Racing Drama

In an unexpected twist, Red Bull Racing’s newest entrant, Liam Lawson, finds himself on the brink of a demotion after just two races. The decision, sparked by his underwhelming performance at unfamiliar tracks, has ignited a debate within the Formula 1 community. Former F1 driver Christijan Albers is now urging Red Bull’s Helmut Marko to grant Lawson one more chance to prove his mettle at the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix.

The Pressure Cooker: Lawson’s Debut Under Scrutiny

Lawson’s debut season in Formula 1 has not been a gentle introduction. Tasked with replacing Sergio Perez for the 2025 championship, Lawson was expected to support Max Verstappen’s quest for victory. Yet, the young driver’s performance has fallen short of the high standards set by Red Bull. Marko had laid out clear expectations: Lawson needed to stay within three-tenths of Verstappen during both qualifying and race conditions. Unfortunately, that target proved elusive in the initial Grand Prix weekends.

Mounting Speculation: Is Lawson’s Time Running Out?

Lawson’s performance at the Australian Grand Prix saw him a full second behind Verstappen in qualifying, leading to an early Q1 exit and a crash in the wet conditions. Red Bull initially dismissed this setback, but the subsequent race in China only added to the concerns. Two more Q1 eliminations and a lackluster P20 finish have left Lawson without any points, prompting Red Bull to reconsider their options just two races into the season.

Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s motorsport advisor, has not calmed the speculation. Speaking after the Shanghai qualifying session, he hinted at potential changes, acknowledging the disappointing results and suggesting the need for a thorough analysis. Marko’s comments have only fueled rumors of Lawson’s potential replacement by another driver from Red Bull’s junior academy.

Albers’ Plea: Give Lawson One More Chance

In the cutthroat world of Formula 1, where Red Bull is known for its aggressive team strategies, Albers has voiced his disapproval of Marko’s public stance. The Viaplay analyst emphasized the importance of supporting drivers during challenging times. “Marko should stand behind his drivers, no matter the outcome,” Albers stated, advocating for Lawson to compete in Japan, a track where he has prior experience. This, Albers argues, would provide a fair evaluation of Lawson’s abilities.

Despite Albers’ plea, sources indicate that Lawson might be edged out for Yuki Tsunoda in Japan. With negotiations underway, a formal decision is anticipated soon, leaving Lawson’s future hanging in the balance.

Panic and Media Pressure: The Real Culprits?

Albers attributes this turbulent situation to panic within Red Bull, exacerbated by intense media scrutiny. “It is usually a panic factor that plays a role,” Albers pointed out, highlighting how media pressure can influence team decisions during high-stakes moments.

As the motorsport world watches closely, the fate of Liam Lawson at Red Bull remains uncertain. With potential changes looming on the horizon, only time will tell if Lawson gets another shot at proving his worth on the Formula 1 stage.
