Fernando Alonso, from the Aston Martin F1 team, was seen at the drivers’ parade during the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, Italy, on May 19, 2024. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko recently revealed that discussions were held with Alonso about a possible participation in 2025, before his contract renewal with Aston Martin. Last month, Aston Martin announced that Alonso had signed a new contract extension to stay with the team until the rule changes in 2026. Although Alonso acknowledged talking to other teams, he did not disclose which ones. There were rumors that he was interested in joining Red Bull. Marko confirmed that discussions took place with Alonso, but it was decided that hiring him could disrupt the harmonious working environment of Max Verstappen. Marko emphasized that having two multiple champions in the same team, alongside current driver Sergio Perez, would not be conducive to success. He pointed out the age difference and contrasting personalities of Alonso and Verstappen, making it challenging for a team to manage them effectively. Despite not winning a race since 2013 and turning 43 in July, Alonso continues to impress Marko with his performance and dedication at the highest level. Marko also mentioned that Red Bull had approached Alonso in the early years of the team, but he declined as he did not believe they were capable of building championship-winning cars.
