Marco Andretti, a veteran of the Indianapolis 500 since his debut in 2006, is set to take on the iconic race for the 20th time this May. Andretti Global confirmed on Tuesday that Andretti will pilot the #98 entry, with MAPEI returning as the primary sponsor after its successful partnership in 2024.
A Storied Legacy Continues
The announcement ensures Andretti’s participation in the Indy 500 remains uninterrupted, extending a two-decade streak that began when he joined the series in 2006. Despite stepping back from full-time IndyCar competition after 2020, Marco Andretti has remained a fixture at “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,” chasing the elusive victory that has eluded his illustrious family for decades.
Andretti’s best finish came in his rookie year when he was heartbreakingly passed by Sam Hornish Jr. mere yards from the finish line, securing a runner-up spot in what remains one of the race’s most dramatic conclusions. His most recent highlight was a pole position in the delayed 2020 event, though he finished 13th in that race.
MAPEI’s Continued Partnership
MAPEI, a global leader in adhesives and chemical products, has expanded its presence in IndyCar through its association with Andretti Global. The partnership, which began in 2024 as a full-season sponsor for Kyle Kirkwood’s #27 car and as the primary backer for Marco Andretti’s Indy 500 effort, has proven mutually beneficial.
“Our partnership with MAPEI over the 2024 season was such an excellent addition to our Andretti IndyCar program,” said Doug Bresnahan, Chief Commercial Officer at Andretti Global. “We are honored to have MAPEI back on board in 2025 for what is sure to be another exciting season.”
The renewal of MAPEI’s sponsorship also quells any doubts about Marco Andretti’s future with the team, following leadership changes at Andretti Global that had raised questions about his single-race arrangement.
Eyes on the Prize
For Marco Andretti, the Indianapolis 500 represents unfinished business. Despite years of near-misses and strong showings, victory at the Brickyard has remained just out of reach. The #98 entry with MAPEI sponsorship offers another shot at etching his name into the record books alongside the greatest names in racing.
The 107th running of the Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for May 25, 2025, and all eyes will be on the Andretti family as Marco looks to finally capture the Borg-Warner Trophy, adding another chapter to his storied career.
