Fred Makowiecki, driver for Porsche Penske Motorsport, expressed his opinion about the current situation, stating that it is a political matter. He believes that when someone points fingers at others, it is often to divert attention from themselves. He emphasized the importance of focusing on one’s own responsibilities and tasks.
The team has had a strong performance in the first three races of the season, as well as during the Test Day last weekend, where they set the fastest time. As a result, they have been recognized by their competitors as favorites for the 2024 edition of the renowned endurance race in France.
Makowiecki acknowledged the team’s progress compared to the previous year and expressed his pride in their current position. However, he remains cautious and believes that they do not have a significant advantage over their competitors, especially Toyota and CRI, whom he expects to be formidable opponents.
Makowiecki shares the Porsche 963 #5 with Matt Campbell and Michael Christensen. While Campbell secured the pole position in Qatar, the first race of the season, and they finished third in the race, they have not yet achieved a victory. In contrast, the sister Porsche #6 emerged victorious in Qatar, marking the first win for a car with LMDh rules and the Porsche 963.
Regarding the perceived advantage of Porsche in tire warming, Makowiecki believes that it has advantages and disadvantages. While quick warming provides an advantage, it often results in greater tire degradation. He acknowledges that tire warming is an important topic for the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans, especially due to lower temperatures. Makowiecki believes that adapting to the conditions is crucial for success.
The qualifying session, which will reveal the pace of each car in one lap, is scheduled for 7pm local time and will last one hour.
