Luxury Up in Flames: Lamborghini Revuelto Reduced to Ashes on New York Highway

In a fiery and unfortunate turn of events, one of Lamborghini’s highly anticipated 2024 Revuelto supercars was reduced to a smoldering heap on a New York highway. The car, valued at a staggering $608,000, burst into flames while cruising down the road, leaving only 498 of the planned 499 units in existence. Luckily, no one was injured in the incident, but the exotic car, a symbol of wealth and performance, is now nothing more than a write-off.

The owner of the Lamborghini, Ethan Duran, who runs an exotic car rental empire across New York, Miami, and Los Angeles, captured the blaze on camera and shared it on Instagram. The viral footage shows the Revuelto engulfed in towering flames with smoke billowing from the vehicle as loud bangs—likely the sound of airbags detonating—echo in the background. “Well… it was fun while it lasted,” Duran quipped in the video’s caption, clearly stunned by the rapid destruction of his prized possession.

In the footage, Duran is heard commenting on the surreal sight: “This is crazy! The whole car is on fire! That’s actually insane.” Bystanders and fellow motorists can be seen offering help, but Duran reassures them that everyone, including his passenger, made it out safely before the inferno took hold.

Speculation is swirling around the cause of the fire, with many commenting that the supercar may have been fitted with an aftermarket exhaust, a modification known to increase heat output and potentially contribute to fires in high-performance vehicles. If true, this could complicate insurance claims, as such modifications often void warranties. However, these details remain unconfirmed.

The tragedy unfolded when Duran noticed smoke emanating from the car and promptly pulled over, giving both him and his passenger just enough time to escape. Moments later, the Revuelto was swallowed by flames. In a bizarre twist, one taillight continued to glow as the car disintegrated into ashes, adding an eerie element to the already dramatic scene.

The Lamborghini Revuelto is the Italian automaker’s first-ever plug-in hybrid supercar, boasting a jaw-dropping 1,015 horsepower generated by a combination of its 6.5-liter V12 engine and three electric motors. With an acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in a blistering 2.5 seconds, it’s a marvel of engineering designed for extreme performance. Yet, this fire has raised concerns about the car’s safety.

Lamborghini is expected to launch an investigation into the incident, which marks the first time a Revuelto has caught fire since deliveries began. Should the hybrid system be found at fault, it could lead to recalls, though with only 499 units set for production, the scope of such an operation would be relatively small.

As the investigation looms, this fiery episode has cast a shadow over Lamborghini’s latest creation, a car meant to herald the future of hybrid supercars. For now, Ethan Duran and the remaining 498 owners can only hope that this was an isolated incident—and not a forewarning of potential issues to come with the Revuelto.
