Just as Kevin Magnussen departs the Formula 1 grid, another Magnussen family member is stepping onto the single-seater ladder—Luca Magnussen. While F1 is still far off, the 15-year-old is set to graduate from karting this year by competing in the UK-based GB4 series with Fortec Motorsport.
Luca Magnussen’s First Step into Single-Seaters
Fortec team principal Oliver Dutton has high praise for Luca’s potential, stating:
🗣️ “He has shown incredible potential during his karting career and particularly impressed when he tested for the team at Donington Park recently.”
The MotorSport Vision-run GB4 series serves as a cost-effective alternative to the FIA-backed British Formula 4, utilizing an older F4 chassis and acting as a stepping stone into the GB3 championship—MSV’s equivalent to Formula 3.
Magnussen Racing Legacy Continues
Luca follows in the footsteps of both his older brother Kevin and father Jan, both of whom had careers in British junior single-seater racing:
- Kevin Magnussen finished second to Felipe Nasr in British F3 (2011) before embarking on a decade-long F1 career, including a podium on debut with McLaren in 2014.
- Jan Magnussen made headlines in the mid-1990s, dominating British F3 (1994) and winning the 1992 Formula Ford Festival in spectacular fashion, making him one of the most sought-after talents on the F1 ladder.
Although Jan’s F1 career lasted just one-and-a-half seasons with Stewart (1997-98), Kevin managed a full decade in the sport. Now, Luca is looking to carve his own path, aiming to follow the family’s racing legacy and rise through the ranks.
