Former Williams Racing Formula 1 driver Logan Sargeant is set to make his NTT IndyCar Series debut with a test for Meyer Shank Racing. The American driver, who was recently replaced at Williams by Franco Colapinto, will test one of MSR’s Honda-powered Dallara DW12s on the 17-turn, 3.067-mile road course on November 19.
Sargeant, 23, competed in 37 F1 races before being replaced amid speculation surrounding his future at Williams. With his F1 prospects uncertain, Sargeant’s management team reached out to several IndyCar teams, seeking opportunities for the Florida native. Despite limited openings, Sargeant’s meeting with MSR co-owners Mike Shank and Jim Meyer during the season finale at Nashville Speedway proved fruitful, leading to the offer of a test.
The test at Thermal, near Palm Springs, will also mark the first road course outing for MSR under its new technical partnership with Chip Ganassi Racing, the defending series champions. This alliance includes shared resources such as dampers, chassis setups, and engineering support, providing both teams a chance to evaluate Sargeant’s potential on the road course.
MSR and Ganassi will begin their collaboration with an oval test in October, featuring four-time Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves, before shifting focus to Sargeant’s road course debut. Although neither MSR nor Ganassi has any available seats for the 2025 season, the test offers Sargeant a valuable opportunity to demonstrate his skills to other teams within the IndyCar paddock.
Sargeant’s test with MSR could be a crucial stepping stone as he looks to transition from Formula 1 to IndyCar, offering him a chance to impress potential suitors and keep his racing career on track.
