Lions Urged to Sign Veteran Edge Rusher After Record-Breaking Season

The Detroit Lions have been struggling to find a consistent pass rusher to complement Aidan Hutchinson, their dynamic edge rusher. However, there is a suggestion that the team could target Leonard Floyd, a veteran who had a career-best season with the Buffalo Bills. According to Jared Ramsey of the Detroit Free Press, the Lions had difficulties defending the pass and generating consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks. Ramsey believes that Floyd, who recorded double-digit sacks with the Bills in 2023, could be the top potential addition for the Lions. Despite being 32 years old in September, Floyd’s projected 2024 contract is two years and $16.2 million, averaging $8.1 million per year.

Floyd has made it clear that he won’t be giving the Bills a hometown discount. After the team’s playoff exit, he expressed his intention to take the best offer available to him. The Bills have found Floyd to be worth every penny, and his performance against the Jets showcased his abilities.

The Lions could also consider other free-agent defensive linemen, such as Calais Campbell or Jadaveon Clowney. However, Floyd seems to be the top choice due to his impressive performance with the Bills. While his acquisition may not come cheap, he could greatly enhance the Detroit defense.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is always following the money. In a recent statement, he expressed his willingness to go wherever his agent believes he can secure the highest paycheck. “For me, I’m always going where the money goes. I’d rather be here, but it is what it is. It’s a business. I’m gonna go wherever my agent feels like we get the most money from,” Floyd said.

The Detroit Lions, on the other hand, are looking to bolster their pass rush. They have been successful in the past, drafting players like Hutchinson and Houston, who have shown glimpses of stardom. However, injuries have plagued their progress. To address this, the Lions may turn to the upcoming draft.

One potential target for the Lions is UCLA’s Laiatu Latu. He is projected to be a late first-round pick and could be a good fit for Detroit. Latu returned to college football after a medical retirement due to a preseason neck injury in 2020. Despite concerns about his injury, Latu has showcased his skills on the field, with 18.5 tackles for loss this season alone. His durability has also been impressive, playing in all 23 possible games over the last two seasons.

Latu is determined to prove himself in the NFL, especially after spending two years away from the game due to his neck injury. He has a strong mindset and is determined to show the world what he is capable of. “All the while when I wasn’t playing football, I just had the determination and the mindset that I was going to be able to come back and play football and prove to the world what I could do,” Latu said.

In conclusion, Floyd Mayweather Jr. prioritizes money in his career decisions, while the Detroit Lions are considering UCLA’s Laiatu Latu to strengthen their pass rush. Latu, who has overcome a neck injury, is eager to showcase his abilities in the NFL.
