Richard Lietz informed a selected group of media that the race was challenging but well managed by the team. He expressed his satisfaction with the control they had over the race, stating that “everything was under control.” Starting in P16, Lietz’s #91 team adopted a race mode strategy, being cautious and retreating when necessary during the night. However, in the morning, they switched to race mode, fighting for position on the track. Lietz emphasized the importance of fully committing and surviving the night and unpredictable weather conditions.
Reflecting on his fifth podium in the class at Le Mans, Lietz described the feeling as “very, very good.” He expressed his love for the event and the familiar faces he encounters every year, saying, “And it’s the only place you want to come back to every year.”
Lietz, along with his teammates Yasser Shahin and Morris Schuring, showed an impressive performance in the highly competitive opening phase of the race for the LMGT3 category. Despite challenging conditions, including heavy rain during the night, the Manthey EMA #91 Porsche 911 LMGT3.R had no reliability issues. Only the front brakes were changed during a safety car period. They maintained a comfortable lead throughout the 24 hours, securing their first victory in the previous round of the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and extending their championship lead. The next race, a six-hour event at Interlagos on July 14, will continue the WEC’s narrative for the 2024 season.
