Formula 1 Star Liam Lawson Shatters Fundraising Records with Thrilling Supercar Hot Laps for Breast Cancer Research!
In a stunning display of speed and generosity, Racing Bulls Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson has raised an astonishing NZ$50,000 for breast cancer research during the winter break, captivating fans and supporters alike at Highlands Motorsport Park in Cromwell, Otago. The event, which attracted a massive crowd, featured exhilarating hot laps in high-octane supercars, including the awe-inspiring Aston Martin Vulcan and the fierce Porsche GT3. These adrenaline-pumping rides were auctioned off through a silent bidding process, turning thrilling experiences into a lifeline for breast cancer research.
“I can’t believe how many people were here, and how much money was raised for breast cancer,” exclaimed Lawson, overwhelmed by the community’s enthusiasm and support. The event wasn’t just a racing spectacle; it was a heartfelt tribute organized by Josie Spillane, CEO of Highlands Motorsport Park, in memory of her close friend, Louise Scott-Gallagher, who tragically lost her battle with breast cancer.
“Liam’s generosity in giving us his time helped us raise crucial funds for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ, ensuring her legacy continues to drive real change. We’re overwhelmed by the community’s support,” Spillane stated, emphasizing the impact of the event and the vital role that Lawson played in its success.
This incredible fundraising effort comes on the heels of Lawson’s first full season in F1, where he made his mark alongside four-time world champion Max Verstappen before switching to the Racing Bulls team. Despite facing challenges and being replaced after just two races, Lawson showed resilience and skill, finishing 14th in the drivers’ standings with a total of 38 points, just shy of his teammate Isack Hadjar, who secured 51 points and finished in 12th place.
Racing Bulls concluded the season in a respectable sixth position in the constructors’ championship with a total of 92 points, outperforming Aston Martin and finishing just behind Williams. Looking ahead, Lawson is set to continue his journey with Racing Bulls into the 2026 season, teaming up with promising British rookie Arvid Lindblad. Team principal Alan Permane praised Lawson’s impressive performance, stating, “Liam has shown impressive performance and professionalism throughout this year. He has excelled when conditions have been at their hardest, and we look forward to building on this in 2026.”
With the combination of his racing prowess and philanthropic spirit, Liam Lawson is not only speeding down the track but also racing towards a brighter future for breast cancer research. This remarkable event serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that one driver can have beyond the confines of the racetrack.
