Liam Lawson Ready for Formula 1 Return, Eyes Full-Time Seat in 2025

Liam Lawson is gearing up for his return to Formula 1, filling in for Daniel Ricciardo after replacing him mid-season. The 22-year-old New Zealander, who impressed during his five-race debut in 2023, is eager to take on the challenges of the remaining 2024 season and prove himself worthy of a permanent seat in 2025.

After being given the opportunity to step back into the pinnacle of motorsport, Lawson expressed gratitude to those who supported him throughout his journey. He reflected on the immense dedication it took to reach this point, noting that racing in Formula 1 had been his dream since childhood.

“To everybody who’s stuck with me for all the years leading up to this, thank you,” Lawson said. “Obviously, it’s a huge journey and, for me, this is what I’ve dreamed of doing since I was a kid.”

Lawson is aware that simply earning the seat is only the beginning, and the real challenge lies in performing at the highest level. He is determined to make the most of this opportunity and hopes his performance over the next six races will earn him a full-time position with Red Bull Racing for the 2025 season.

“Obviously now we have another mountain to climb going into the season and hopefully driving next year as well,” Lawson added. “Hopefully this is the start of F1 for me, but I just want to say thank you to everybody, because I appreciate it a lot.”

Lawson first joined the Formula 1 grid in 2023, taking over for the injured Ricciardo, and quickly showcased his potential. He’s approaching the 2024 season with confidence, particularly as he gears up for the United States Grand Prix in Austin, despite the added challenge of competing on a new track.

“It’s going to be tough to jump in. Austin I haven’t done before, either, so even though I’ve done plenty of sim work it’s going to be a big challenge. I would say I’m better prepared, definitely more prepared this year than I was last year,” Lawson said.

Red Bull’s performance throughout the 2024 season has been inconsistent, making the final races crucial. Lawson will need the team’s full support to excel and help fend off Haas for sixth place in the Constructors’ Championship, with only three points separating the two teams.

As Lawson prepares for the next leg of his Formula 1 journey, his focus remains on finishing the season strong and securing a long-term future in the sport.
