Liam Lawson Eager to Unveil Racing Bulls’ Potential in Bahrain After Barcelona Test
Liam Lawson is buzzing with anticipation as he prepares for the next thrilling chapter of his Formula 1 journey with the Racing Bulls. Fresh off a grueling shakedown in Barcelona, Lawson’s eagerness is palpable as he gears up to test the limits of his RBPT-powered machine on the challenging Sakhir circuit in Bahrain.
In just a day and a half, Lawson racked up an impressive 152 laps at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, showcasing the capabilities and resilience of his new car. However, the upcoming Bahrain test, scheduled to kick off on February 11th, promises to be a game-changer. Unlike the cold and somewhat restrictive conditions of Barcelona, Bahrain is known for its abrasive surface and demanding traction zones that could really test the mettle of the Racing Bulls.
“There’s a lot to learn for all of us as the 2026 car is very different to drive, so I just tried to adapt as much as I could,” Lawson remarked, highlighting the steep learning curve he faces with this year’s model. The new car’s reduced downforce makes it a handful, with Lawson noting, “It moves around quite a bit; there’s a lot of power when the battery is fully deployed, but the way in which you have to manage it is something completely new.”
The young driver is keenly aware that while they had a strong start in terms of reliability, the real test lies ahead. “We’ve been trying several things on the car, and it’s been great to keep building mileage on the new power unit,” he stated, underscoring the importance of gathering data to inform future performance. However, he candidly admits, “In terms of expectations, it’s very hard to say at this point, as we don’t know where everyone else is.”
As the team eyes the season opener in Melbourne, Lawson remains focused on their own progress, stating, “We’re focused on our own job and want to keep improving in order to be in the best shape possible.” With the clock ticking down to the Bahrain test, all eyes will be on Lawson and the Racing Bulls as they aim to translate their hard work and data collection into performance on the track.
“Overall, we ended the test in a much better place than where we started on Monday,” Lawson concluded, setting the stage for what could be a pivotal performance in Bahrain. As the anticipation heats up, fans and critics alike are eager to see how the Racing Bulls will adapt to the unique challenges of the Sakhir circuit, and whether Lawson can harness the full potential of his new ride. The excitement is building—Bahrain is just around the corner, and the racing world is watching closely!
