Liam Lawson fights for survival: can he secure his Racing Bulls F1 seat for 2026?

Liam Lawson is poised to battle for his future in Formula 1, revealing the crucial strategies that might help him cling to his Racing Bulls seat for the 2026 season. After a rollercoaster debut season that has left fans on the edge of their seats, Lawson knows that the stakes are sky-high.

Kicking off 2025 with the prestigious Red Bull Racing team after stepping in for Daniel Ricciardo, Lawson showcased his potential by impressing during his late-season appearances in 2024. However, the thrill quickly turned to despair as he struggled to find his footing alongside reigning champion Max Verstappen. His glaring challenges in both pace and confidence in the RB21 led to a swift demotion back to Racing Bulls after just two races— a sobering reminder of the cutthroat nature of Formula 1.

As the season nears its end, Lawson’s battle to secure his seat intensifies. With Yuki Tsunoda now stepping into the Red Bull spotlight and promising junior driver Arvid Lindblad waiting in the wings, Lawson understands that every moment counts. His maiden season will be scrutinized with a fine-tooth comb, overshadowing his rocky start, which he believes could be pivotal to his future in the sport. “Your first year in F1 is the most important,” Lawson stated emphatically. “It is really the year where you improve and whether you stay in the sport. More drivers probably lose their drive after one or two seasons than after multiple.”

Despite the mounting pressure, Lawson is no stranger to the weight of expectations. His recent performance in Las Vegas, where he finished a disappointing 14th while teammate Isack Hadjar shone with a sixth-place finish, has only amplified the urgency of his situation. Yet, Lawson has displayed a remarkable acceptance of his circumstances, revealing a deep understanding of the relentless pressure that comes with being part of the Red Bull family. “Once you secure a seat for a few years, you are known to be a valuable driver,” he remarked, reflecting on the fierce competition that characterizes this elite environment.

While the uncertainty of his future is daunting, Lawson insists that he thrives under pressure. “I’d love to have the comfort of being secure, but at the same time, I’ve only ever known this sort of pressure and environment, so it is what I know,” he explained, a testament to his resilience and determination to succeed against all odds.

With the end of the season approaching, all eyes will be on Lawson as he fights to prove himself worthy of a future in Formula 1. Will he rise to the occasion and secure his place, or will he become another casualty in the relentless race for glory? The countdown is on, and the world of motorsport will be watching closely as the drama unfolds.
