Liam Lawson Blames Carlos Sainz for Devastating Collision That Ruined Mexico GP Dreams

Liam Lawson Blasts Carlos Sainz After Devastating Collision at Mexican GP

In a spectacular twist of events at the Mexico City Grand Prix, Liam Lawson’s race came crashing down—quite literally—after a harrowing collision with Carlos Sainz. The New Zealand driver did not hold back in his criticism, pointing a finger squarely at Sainz as the culprit behind the incident that “killed” his chances of a successful race.

Starting from the 15th position, Lawson was determined to make an impact. He seized what he believed was an opportunity on the outside at the first corner. However, disaster struck as he collided heavily with Sainz’s Williams, forcing him to pit for repairs. Unfortunately, the damage inflicted on Lawson’s VCARB 02 was too severe, leading to an early retirement from the race—a bitter end to what had been a weekend filled with high hopes.

Reflecting on the chaotic scene at Turn 1, Lawson recounted, “We had a really good start. And then, basically, there was a lot of space on the outside.” He explained how he filled the gap while others struggled for traction. “I left plenty of space next to Carlos. And I think he’s decided to cut the chicane, but hasn’t looked left, and I’m right there,” Lawson continued, clearly frustrated. The collision, he stated, was a reckless oversight on Sainz’s part. “He’s just driven into the side of me. So yeah, it’s something that just sucks. I think you ought to have more awareness. Honestly, it’s destroyed the side of our car, and we had to retire.”

This incident not only underscores the intense competition of Formula 1 but also raises questions about driver awareness and accountability on the track. Lawson’s candid remarks highlight the frustration of a driver who had hoped for a better outing at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Instead, he was left to grapple with a race that spiraled out of control—thanks to an unexpected clash that has now overshadowed his performance.

As the dust settles from this dramatic turn of events, fans and analysts alike are left wondering: Was it a simple racing incident, or a failure of judgement that could have serious implications for both drivers moving forward? One thing is for certain—Lawson’s fiery response is sure to keep the conversation going long after the checkered flag was waved.
