Ferrari’s 2026 Tyre Test Offers First Glimpse of Future Formula 1 Cars

The wait is almost over—Lewis Hamilton’s first official laps in a Ferrari Formula 1 car will take place on the same day the Scuderia unveils its 2025 challenger.

The seven-time F1 world champion, who shocked the motorsport world with his switch from Mercedes to Ferrari, will get his first taste of the SF-25 on February 19 at Fiorano, Ferrari’s private test track in Maranello.

After spending 11 years at Mercedes, Hamilton is about to write the next chapter of his legendary career—and it all starts with a crucial first run in Ferrari’s latest machine.

Ferrari’s Grand Unveiling: Two Days, Two Big Events

Hamilton will be officially presented as a Ferrari driver at a high-profile event in London’s O2 Arena on February 18, where all 10 F1 teams will reveal their 2025 liveries.

However, the SF-25 itself won’t be seen just yet—Ferrari will display its new design on last year’s SF-24 chassis, keeping the real car under wraps for one more day.

On February 19, the true SF-25 will break cover in Maranello, immediately followed by track action, with both Hamilton and Charles Leclerc getting the chance to drive the car for the first time at Fiorano.

This launch-and-drive approach has become a Ferrari tradition, giving the team a crucial early feel for the car before official pre-season testing begins.

Hamilton’s First Feel for Ferrari Power

While Hamilton has already completed test runs in Ferrari’s older SF-23 chassis, this will be his first time behind the wheel of the 2025 machine—the car he hopes will finally deliver his eighth world title.

According to team boss Fred Vasseur, the SF-25 is a complete overhaul compared to last year’s car:

“The car will be completely new; I think we’ll have less than one percent of the parts in common with the 2024 car,” Vasseur said.
“It’s a different project, but the same applies to everyone. We can’t say now if 2025 will be our year, but I trust the project we’re working on.”

Ferrari’s Title Ambitions: Can Hamilton Lead the Charge?

Ferrari came agonizingly close to the 2024 Constructors’ Championship, finishing just 14 points behind McLaren. But five race wins weren’t enough to dethrone Red Bull, and the Scuderia is determined to make 2025 their year.

For Hamilton, the goal is clear—bring Ferrari back to championship glory.

“If it will be competitive, we’ll find out in Bahrain [pre-season testing],” Vasseur admitted.

While the Fiorano shakedown is limited to 200 km (due to F1’s strict testing rules), it will be a critical first impression for Hamilton.

A Grueling Test Program Before the Real Fight Begins

Hamilton has already been heavily involved in Ferrari’s testing program, taking part in:
✅ Fiorano (SF-23) – January 2025
✅ Barcelona (SF-23) – February 2025 (ended in a crash, cutting the test short)
✅ Barcelona (SF-24, modified for Pirelli’s 2026 tire test)

Now, the real work begins. After his first Fiorano laps, Hamilton will gear up for pre-season testing in Bahrain (February 21-23) before his Ferrari race debut at the season-opening Bahrain GP on March 2.

The Hamilton-Ferrari Hype Train is Officially Leaving the Station

The biggest driver move in modern F1 history is about to become a reality on track.

For Ferrari fans, Hamilton supporters, and F1 as a whole, February 19 will be a historic moment—one that could mark the beginning of a new championship-winning era.
