Lewis Hamilton led Q2 of the Mexican Grand Prix in Formula 1 and showed good signs that he could be in the fight for the top positions in the decisive phase of qualifying. However, the Mercedes man was far from replicating the same performance and will start from sixth.

According to the seven-time champion, the W14 is not giving him good sensations, ultimately breaking between Q2 and Q3: ‘I have been struggling with the car all weekend and it was a bit of a nightmare to drive. We had to try to fix the performance piece by piece and we made good changes before qualifying, so I was much happier with the car. Q1 and Q2 didn’t seem too bad, especially the second lap in Q2. But the car is unstable – sometimes it’s in the window, sometimes it’s not. And I couldn’t extract anything more from it on that last lap’.

For Sunday’s race, Hamilton does not expect a very encouraging scenario: ‘The race will definitely be a challenge: we will overheat the tires and brakes, so it won’t be easy to fight with the cars around us. I really don’t know what kind of race to expect, but it will be on a knife-edge’.
