In a blistering attack that has sent shockwaves through the motorsport community, Lewis Hamilton has accused the FIA of blatant hypocrisy following his controversial 10-second penalty during the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix. The seven-time Formula 1 world champion didn’t hold back, declaring, “It’s double standards as you can tell, and it is what it is.”

The incident unfolded at the iconic Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez as Hamilton engaged in a fierce battle with Max Verstappen. As Hamilton locked his brakes and veered onto the escape road, he complied with the race director’s instructions—yet this moment of compliance led to a severe penalty. While Hamilton managed to return to the track ahead of the pack, it was a moment that would haunt him as it resulted in a time penalty that essentially crushed his podium hopes.

The drama escalated as Verstappen found himself embroiled in a tussle with Oliver Bearman and George Russell. The chaos allowed Hamilton to create a crucial two-second lead, a lead that would later incite the wrath of the FIA. Fans and analysts alike are now questioning the fairness of the governing body’s decision-making following a weekend filled with questionable racing maneuvers that went unpunished.

Hamilton’s grievances were amplified by the fact that Verstappen and Charles Leclerc had also breached track limits earlier in the race without facing any repercussions. Verstappen, in particular, appeared to gain a significant advantage after cutting the first corner—a move that many spectators felt should have warranted a penalty. Leclerc, too, showcased a blatant disregard for track limits, darting across the grass while battling Hamilton, yet he managed to escape without any disciplinary action.

The hypocrisy of the FIA’s decisions has ignited a fiery debate among F1 fans. Social media platforms exploded with discontent as supporters echoed Hamilton’s sentiments, with one user declaring, “Leclerc and Verstappen are allowed to cut corners, gain significant advantages, and keep their positions. The FIA is such a corrupt organization, it’s just disgusting.” Another fan went so far as to suggest that a future whistleblower might expose a systematic bias against Hamilton, hinting at a deeper issue within the governing body.

Hamilton’s penalty not only dropped him out of the podium contention but also reignited long-standing accusations of bias against the FIA. Many fans are left wondering why Hamilton seems to be the only driver consistently on the receiving end of harsh penalties. “Why does no other driver get slammed the way Lewis does?” one fan queried, underscoring the growing sentiment that there’s an unwritten rulebook in play favoring certain drivers over others.

As the dust settles on the 2025 Mexico City GP, one thing remains clear: the controversy surrounding Hamilton’s penalty has opened a Pandora’s box of questions about fairness, consistency, and integrity in Formula 1. With Hamilton at the center of this storm, the FIA must address these allegations of double standards head-on, or risk losing the trust of fans and drivers alike. The racing world will be watching closely as the fallout from this explosive race continues to unfold.
