In the high-octane world of Formula 1, where speeds often exceed 230 mph, Lewis Hamilton has revealed a personal pre-race ritual that goes beyond just physical preparation. The seven-time world champion, who is admired both on and off the grid, shared that before every race, he takes a moment to pray—not just for himself, but for the safety of all the drivers on the track.
“I pray every time before I race. I pray that everyone is safe,” Hamilton confessed.
Formula 1 has seen its fair share of dangerous crashes, some resulting in tragic losses. Despite significant advancements in safety measures, the sport remains inherently risky. Hamilton, who has been involved in some terrifying crashes himself, has always emerged unscathed, and his prayers seem to be part of his way of coping with that ever-present danger.
Despite the extreme conditions of F1—where drivers experience powerful G-forces and race inches from disaster at “crazy speeds”—Hamilton admitted that he doesn’t fear death on the track. However, he recognizes the respect required for the sport’s dangers, acknowledging the life-threatening potential of every race.
“I don’t [fear death], no. But still, we’re travelling at crazy speeds. You have to respect it,” he said, adding that his experience has made him more conscious of cherishing time with his family.
The 2024 season has been a turbulent one for Hamilton. Despite driving an unpredictable W15, he has remained determined to end the season on a high note. The Brit, who has spent over a decade with Mercedes, will switch to Ferrari in 2025, marking a new chapter in his storied career. With almost 300 races under his belt, Hamilton’s focus remains as sharp as ever, as does his commitment to safety—not just for himself but for everyone sharing the track.
